Bassist, arranger and composer, Marcos Paiva is considered by music critics as one of the most important names of his generation. Winner of the Professional Music Award 2017 (PPM), with the album Concerto para Pixinguinha (Atração Fonográfica, 2016), alongside singer Vânia Bastos, Marcos has even more 7 authored albums: Slamousike (Marcos Paiva Sexteto e Convidados - MP6, 2022); Ensemble Choro Erudito (Ricardo Valverde, Wanessa Dourado and Marcos Paiva - KUARUP, 2020); Bailado (Marcos Paiva - Daniel Grajew - YB, 2016); Choroso (Marcos Paiva Trio / 2015); Meu Samba no Prato - Tributo a Edison Machado (Marcos Paiva Sexteto / 2012); São Mateus (Marcos Paiva Sexteto / 2007); Rule of Three (Bob Waytt, Lupa Santiago and Marcos Paiva/ TRATORE, 2007). Paiva has in his curriculum more than 150 presentations of his works authored by Brazil in jazz and instrumental music festivals, municipal theaters and SESC network.
The double bass player has two books released: Brazilian Idiomatic Improvisation (MP6 - art and sounds, 2022) and The Contrabaixo na Roda de Choro (Kirja, 2017), which was published in Germany by Editions Gruber (The Bass in the Choro Jam Sessions), being the first of choro for double bass in Brazil.
In addition to PPM 2017, the double bass player won a scholarship to compose an unpublished work for the program Música Nova, of the Savassi Festival (Belo Horizonte).
Master’s degree from Unicamp, he worked as a teacher in the project Bituca: de casa, at the Conservatory of Tatuí (SP) and at the City Hall of São Paulo.
Acts as pedagogical coordinator at the San Francisco Music School, coordinating a team of 21 teachers and more than 320 music students.
As a sideman musician, he played in shows and recordings alongside great Brazilian and foreign artists such as Leo Gandelman, Zizi Possi, Bibi Ferreira, Teresa Salgueiro (Portuguese singer), Letieres Leite, Glaucia Nasser, Cauby Peixoto, Ná Ozzetti, Danilo Caymmi, Tânia Maria (pianist based in France), Guga Stroeter, Lea Freire, Max BO, Kivitz, Alessandra Leão, Agnaldo Rayol, SoundScape Big Band, Bob Waytt Quartet, Fabiana Cozza (where he was musical director for 10 years and producer of the CDs Samba é Meu Dom e Quando O Céu Clarear, and the DVD Quando O Céu Clarear), and in the CDs of the project Goma-Laca: Cantos Populares do Brasil, by Elsie Houston (2019) and Afrobrasilidades (2014).
The musician also acts as a producer directing recordings for albums, concerts and documentaries.
