About

Maria de Vasconcelos was born in Lisbon on the December 14, 1970. She graduated in Medicine from the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa (FCML) in July 1994. She was the animator on the Rádio Comercial's Morning Program and later on the BestRock FM, with Pedro Ribeiro and Nuno Markl from 2001 to 2004. With them, she wrote the book 'Vai uma rapidinha ?'. She used to be live on stage at Teatro Villaret in Lisbon, with the play "O Homem que mordeu o cão" ('The Man who bit the dog'), from January to April / 2003, which gave rise to a television program broadcast on TV channel 'TVI' during 2004, where one of the rubrics was called "A Canção da Maria" ('Maria's song'). She kept, and still does, her clinical practice as a psychiatrist. She says that since she discovered the guitar, 35 years ago, she has chosen it as the best company of happy times. The entrance to the school from her daughters led her to create songs about school subjects so that they could study while singing and that was how the book + CD "As Canções da Maria" ('Maria's Songs) appeared. It was designed by Nuno Markl and edited by Valentim de Carvalho and got released in March 2012. This project had the goal to encourage kids to study in a fun way, making the learning process simpler and spreading the message that everything becomes easier singing. Both the book + CD and the DVD are used as a school tool by many teachers and educators and are already certified platinum and double platinum. The second book + CD "As Canções da Maria II" (Maria's Songs II) was published on the September 30, 2013, and the songs are a bit more advanced on the school subjects' topics, including multiplication tables, the odd and even numbers, math problems, the Respiratory and Digestive systems, the stressed syllables and the spelling. The third book + CD "As Canções Da Maria: Especial História De Portugal" ('Maria's Songs: Portugal's Story Special') was published in 2017.
