Mario Bava (born July 31, 1914, San Remo, Italy – died April 27, 1980, Rome, Italy) was an Italian director, screenwriter, special effects artist and cinematographer from the "golden age" of Italian horror films. His work kick started the "giallo" film genre of the 1960's and 1970's and the modern "slasher film".
