Mark Volman

US American musician, guitarist, singer, and music educator.

He was best known as a founding member and singer of the pop-rock band The Turtles, achieving fame in the 1960s with hits such as “Happy Together,” “She’d Rather Be With Me,” and “Elenore.” Volman’s distinctive harmonies helped define the group’s signature sound, with “Happy Together” reaching number one on the Billboard charts in 1967. After The Turtles disbanded, Volman as the 'Flo' (or 'The Phlorescent Leech') and bandmate Howard Kaylan formed the vocal parody & harmony duo Flo & Eddie, collaborating with Frank Zappa’s The Mothers of Invention and providing backing vocals for artists including Bruce Springsteen and Alice Cooper. In addition to his music career, Volman earned a degree and later served as a professor of music business at Belmont University in Nashville. He remained an active performer throughout his life and was revered for his contributions to American pop and rock music.
