About

Masashi Ueda (1904–1966) was a Japanese conductor and bassoonist. He was born in the Oono village in Hokkaido and graduated from the Tokyo College of Music in 1922. From 1926 to 1943, Ueda had been playing bassoon in NHK Symphony Orchestra. He also studied with Joseph Rosenstock in Tokyo. In 1945, Masashi conducted a debut concert of the Toho Symphony Orchestra. He served as a chief conductor of the reorganized [url=https://discogs.com/artist/432532]Tokyo Symphony Orchestra[/url] since 1951. Under his direction, TSO greatly expanded its repertoire with contemporary Japanese, American, and Soviet music.
