American composer, producer and pianist, born March 5, 1951 in Brooklyn, New York, USA. He was appointed A&R producer for CBS Records (UK) in 1974. Previously worked as staff writer for CBS Records (UK).
Along with lyricist Dean Pitchford he won an Oscar in 1980 for Best Original Song for "Fame" from the film of the same title. He also won the award that year for best original score. He produced several recordings for the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. He is the younger brother of singer/songwriter Lesley Gore and cousin of writer Alan Dean Foster.
