About

Mirror Of Deception is a metal band founded in Göppingen, Germany (near Stuttgart) in 1990 by guitar players Michael Siffermann and Jochen Fopp.

The first line-up was complete in early 1992 and featured Markus Baumerhauer (vocals), Rainer Hampel (bass) und Ingo Häderle (drums).the first, self-titled demo was released in 1993 to be followed by a second demo, entitled "words unspoken" in 1994. after line-up changes on drums and bass and the addition of Klaus Schmidt (bass) and Gunnar Drescher (drums) the band was signed to southern german label Sub Zero Records. a mini-cd, "Veil Of Lead" was issued in 1997 and the recordings for the debut album started. the recordings were finished in 1999 and the debut album, "Mirrorsoil" was finally released in 2001 on the UK-based label the Miskatonic Foundation. Despite the delay, the album received a great response from both the press and doom metal fanatics worldwide.

The release was followed by tours in Germany and England with bands like Solstice, Warning and End Of Green. Singer Markus Baumhauer quit the band in 2002 and guitarist Michael Siffermann took over vocal duties. As a four piece, the 2003 mini-cd "Conversion" was recorded. The same year, the band performed at the first Doom Shall Rise festival and went on tour with reformed US doom metal legend Revelation and Finland’s up and coming Reverend Bizarre.

The summer of 2003 saw another change of the rhythm section. With new members Andreas Taller (bass) and Jochen Müller (drums, vocals), the band recorded their second album, "Foregone" in 2004, which was released later that year on belgian label Final Chapter Records. Following the release, the band toured Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. In 2005, Mirror Of Deception made several festival appearances in Germany and abroad, also touring Finland with Count Raven and Reverend Bizarre.

"Shards", the third album was released in October 2006 on southern german label Cyclone Empire Records. Following the release, the band played belgian Doom Night, Doom Shall Rise, dutch Doom Day, Days Of Doom and went to Ireland for two shows. A split 7" with england's Tefra was released on Metal Coven Records in 2008, to be followed up by a split 10" with finnish band Garden Of Worm in 2009. It featured a song called "Der student von ulm" which was a novelty as the first doom metal song ever released in the band's native swabian dialect. Mirror Of Deception went on tour with Revelation, Lord Vicar and Lord Of The Grave the same year.

2010, the band's 20th anniversary was dedicated to the recording and release of the 4th album, entitled "A Smouldering Fire". Appearances at the Doom Shall Rise, Hammer Of Doom and Doom Over Vienna festivals followed and the band played a special anniversary show at the end of the year.

2011 saw the band touring with label mates 40 Watt Sun and Semlah and performing at the Malta Doom Festival. In early 2014, after a two year hiatus, bass player Andreas Taller and drummer/vocalist Jochen Müller decided to leave the band after 10 years. Since April 2014, the line-up is complete again with the addition of Hans Schwager (bass and vocals) and Matthias Siffermann (drums). In June 2015, our drummer Matze had to quit the band due to lack of time. Rainer joined the band in September 2015 on the drums.
