Morgoth

About

Death metal act from Meschede, Germany formed in 1985 under the name Cadaverous Smell, then Minas Morgul shortly afterward. The band settled on the name Morgoth in 1987 due to the members' fascination with J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord Of The Rings". The band initially broke up in 1998, yet they reformed in 2010. Long time vocalist Marc Grewe left in 2014, with Karsten "Jagger" Jäger of Disbelief stepping in for the role. They released their first album in nearly 20 years, "Ungod", in March 2015. In May 2018, the band announced that they would take an indefinite hiatus following their performance at Chronical Moshers Open Air in June 2018. On December 2020, after two and a half years of inactivity, the band announced that they have permanently called it quits.
