New Crossbones

New Crossbones was a Zambian Kalindula band active during the 1980's. It was an evolution of the earlier Crossbones band that had released a rock album and a number of singles during the 1970's Zamrock era. Led by Nick Joe Mwanza, the band changed it's name to New Crossbones shortly after addition of Kris Chali to the band's line-up around 1980. The addition of Chris Chali led to a reinvention of the band's style and sound. In 1983 the band gained international attention at the Pan African Youth and Cultural Festival in Libya which led to the band receiving offers to perform at other festivals worldwide. Much of the band's output was via singles but they did release an album, [r8823132] in 1985. The band changed their name to Amayenge that same year. Amayenge would go on to become one of Zambia's most successful Kalindula bands, surviving well into the 2000's..
