Nkeiru Okoye was born in New York, of African American and Nigerian ancestry. She studied composition, music theory, piano, conducting, and Africana Studies at Oberlin Conservatory, where she earned a BM in Composition. She also earned a Master’s degree and PhD in Music Theory and Composition at Rutgers University. Her piano, voice, operatic, chamber, wind ensemble, and orchestral works have garnered national and international acclaim.
