No To Co

Originally "Grupa Skifflowa Piotra Janczerskiego" (Peter Janczerski's Skiffle Group), formed in July 1967 in Łódź, Poland. Founders Piotr Janczerski (ex-Niebiesko-Czarni vocalist) and Jerzy Krzemiński (ex-Trubadurzy) blended Polish folk, skiffle, and big-beat for a lively sound. They debuted on Polish national TV that December, adopting the name 'No To Co' (So What) from a fan contest, and peaked in 1968-1970 with hits like "Po Ten Kwiat Czerwony" which scored them the Grand Prize at the VI Opole Music Festival. Popularity led to international tours (USA, France, UK), and a Gold Record for the "Nikifor" album. Unusually, for a band from a communist regime behind the Iron Curtain, No To Co recorded a single in English, on the CBS label in the UK: ([r10340442]). Lineup shifts and a lean toward rock led to decline by 1971, They disbanded in 1980, reactivated sporadically in 1993 for tours and a 2017 Opole 50th anniversary show.
