Ohtar

About

Polish black metal band from Świdnica, Poland. Active since 1996, they started up as NSBM act with their first release, a 1997 demo titled "The Empire Of White Power". As time flies by, more recently they started to abandon political leanings in their lyrical themes in favor of more depressive, melancholic, misanthropic, even suicidal overtones. Originally split up in early 2012 and formed a new project called "Boundlessness". Reformed in 2014.

The band's name is allegedly referring to "Ohtar", a fictional character created by the writer J.R.R. Tolkien in the mythology of Middle-earth. Ohtar was a rank in the military. The name literally translates from Quenya language as "warrior." It is possible that "Ohtar" was not the real name for this character, but rather a title that he was referred to by those of higher rank. If this was the case, Ohtar's real name is unknown.
