About

Danish Jazz Musician (Guitar, Composition)
Born: June 23, 1936, Nørrebro, Copenhagen, Denmark
Died: February 24, 2024, Langeland, Denmark

Ole Molin, an emblematic figure in the Danish jazz scene, was celebrated for his virtuosity on the guitar and his innovative compositions. His journey through the realms of jazz began in the mid-1950s, marking the start of a career that would leave an indelible mark on the music world.
In the nascent stages of his career, Molin collaborated with the saxophonist Max Brüel, laying the groundwork for what would become a storied journey through jazz. His talent and dedication to the craft led him to become a key member of the Big Band of Danmarks Radio from 1967 to 1976, a period during which he also graced the stage of the famed Jazzhus Montmartre and contributed his artistry to several theaters, including a notable association with the ABC Theater in Frederiksberg.
Molin's contributions to jazz were not confined to performances alone; he was also involved in the recording of music for the ballet "Triumph of Death" with Savage Rose at the Royal Theater in 1971. Throughout his career, Molin collaborated with a host of illustrious musicians, including Finn Savery, Sahib Shihab, Birgit Brüel, Ib Glindemann, Ben Webster, Stéphane Grappelli/Svend Asmussen, and Dexter Gordon, among others.
His solo work was highlighted by the release of "Ole Molin’s Trio" on RCA Victor in 1981, featuring Aage Tanggaard and Mads Vinding, showcasing his prowess as a leader and composer. Molin's contributions to jazz were recognized with the Ben Webster Prize in 1980, further cementing his status as a pivotal figure in the jazz community.
With a recording legacy that spans from 1956 to 1982, involving 50 recording sessions, Molin's impact on jazz is both profound and lasting. Despite achieving fame, he chose the tranquility of Langeland for his final years, where he lived until his death.
