About

Oratnitza (Оратница) came about during the hot summer of 2009 while busking by the sea. The idea soon evolved to interpret Bulgarian traditional songs in a way which our generation can truly embrace. Only a few months later they won the national competition for fusion bands. This title gained them a management deal with Fusion Embassy and the band started touring around Bulgaria and Europe. The band is now the most popular folklore fusion band amongst the Bulgarian youth.

The name Oratnitza refers to a ritual cleansing by fire, performed before ‘Shrovetide’. Their style is even more unusual – a mixture of Bulgarian folklore, Aboriginal motifs (executed on didgeridoo), dubstep, drum ‘n’ bass and orthodox chanting. The trancy, sweeping rhythms of their music invite the audience on a musical voyage, which makes the heart beat faster, the soul sing and the spirit fly. Until the present day there hasn't been a single occasion on which people didn’t intuitively start dancing the traditional Horo! Oratnitza is bringing in a new wave in the Balkan beat scene and it’s 100% live!
