American public committee and lobbyist group, active from May 1985 to the late 1990s. It was established by [url=https://discogs.com/artist/1519709]Tipper Gore[/url], spouse of Tennessee Senator and future Vice President [url=https://discogs.com/artist/2258573]Al Gore[/url], who led a group of so-called "Washington wives" to introduce Parental Control over music with references to violence, sex, and other similar topics. The committee is best known for the "Parental Advisory: Explicit Content" warnings adopted by [url=https://discogs.com/label/255302]RIAA[/url] and BPI and broadly used today, both for physical releases and digital distribution.
