About

Chilean singer, composer, author, poet, novelist, essayist, playwright and journalist.
Born on 3 August 1937, Nacimiento, Chile – died on 25 September 2021, Viña del Mar, Chile.
His musical career began with the composition Bandido (1959), which was recorded in 1962 in Argentina by Los Trovadores Del Norte, and in Chile by Los Cuatro Cuartos. In 1965, Isabel Parra and Ángel Parra created the Chilean folk club "Peña of Carmen 340" (later known as "Peña of the Parra"). The club attracted a circle of renowned singer/songwriters including Patricio Manns, Rolando Alarcon, Victor Jara, Tito Fernández. These artists helped establish the New Chilean Song (Nueva Canción Chilena) movement – a folkloric renaissance which led to a revolution in the popular music of the country.

After the military coup in 1973, Manns managed to leave the country for Cuba. He eventually moved to France where he formed with Horacio Salinas (co-founder and musical director of the Chilean group Inti Illimani) one of the most fruitful collaborations in the history of Chilean music. Manns returned to Chile in 1990.
