After The Peddlers broke up he returned to Australia with his wife Gail. He later became a member of a band called Goliath.
During the 1980s he was a medical practitioner, working as an Osteopath and Acupuncturist in Australia. He returned to New Zealand and as Dr. Johnston, he continued his practice. He died in 2013.
