About

Paul Scheinpflug (10 September 1875, Loschwitz, Dresden — 11 March 1937, Memel {Klaipėda, Lithuania}) was a German composer and conductor. He served as the concertmaster of several notable orchestras, including Bremer Philharmonisches Staatsorchester (1898–1909), Blüthner-Orchester (1914–1920), Duisburger Philharmoniker (1920–1928), and Dresdner Philharmonie (1929–1932).

Scheinpflug studied at Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber Dresden with Felix Draeseke, graduating in 1894. After a brief stint as a private tutor in Kyiv, he relocated to Bremen, conducting the Philharmonic Orchestra and several choirs. Between 1909 and 1914, Paul Scheinpflug served as the conductor at Königsberger Musikverein. In his later years, he primarily toured across Northern and Eastern Europe as a guest conductor with various ensembles, pioneering the later Romantic era repertoire, such as Richard Strauss. He caught pneumonia on tour and died at 61 in Memel, East Prussia (modern Lithuania). Scheinpflug's daughter, Marianne (1900—1986), was married to composer Ernst Pepping.
