About

Bulgarian-Swedish cellist, born March 9, 1927.

She grew up in Bulgaria and her first teacher was a Polish refugee. Petia's other teacher was an Italian whom Petia met in 1941 when they were both seeking bomb shelter in a Bulgarian village. This Italian was also the Bulgarian queen's cello teacher.

Petia attended the academy in Sofia and graduated in 1951. She further studied with the Romanian cellist Radu Aldulescu, played in a small orchestra in Bulgaria and then at the opera in Sofia. She was employed in the Royal Chapel in 1969.

In Sweden, in addition to her service in Kungliga Hovkapellet, she has played a lot of chamber music and also made radio recordings with Sveriges Radios Symfoniorkester as well as recordings with the concert pianist Lillemor Eriksson. For three years, Petia also played with her sister Elisabeth.
