Petru Grabe

Petru Gräbe is a South African mathematician and choral conductor whose distinguished career spans both academia and music. He serves as a Lecturer in Mathematics at the University of Pretoria, where he has combined his passion for education with deep involvement in the choral arts.
In addition to his work in mathematics, Grabe has a long-standing reputation as a choral director and clinician. Over several decades he conducted prominent choirs, including the Pretoria Children’s Choir (1966–1987) and the University Choir of Pretoria (1987–1998), leading ensembles on national and international tours and competitions. He has also been involved with chamber choir ensembles such as Cantamus Corde.

Grabe holds advanced academic credentials—including a doctorate in mathematics—and complementary music qualifications such as a BMus in Musicology and a Performer’s Licentiate in Piano. His dual expertise in rigorous academic research and choral artistry underscores his unique contribution to both fields.
