Piledriver

Piledriver is a thrash metal "band" from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, that was "formed" in 1984. Indeed, Piledriver wasn't a band, when the first two albums were recorded - it was actually another metalploitation band made in the studio by Zoran Busic, the manager of the record company Cobra (2). Both albums were actually created by completely different musicians, while vocalist Gord Kirchin was the only constant in this project. After the release of Stay Ugly, Kirchin moved away from Cobra Records and made a band out of this project with a different name: Dogs With Jobs. In 2005, Kirchin reactivated a real band called The Exalted Piledriver, based on the Piledriver material.

The music on the first album Metal Inquisition was written by Leslie Howe (pseudonym: Bud Slaker) and Louise Reny (pseudonym: Sal Gibson). According to Gord Kirchin the "band" actually consisted of two "members": himself (pseudonym: Pile Driver), who took over the vocal duties and Leslie Howe (Bud Slaker) who played all instruments. The other members mentioned on the release are fake.

The music on the second record Stay Ugly was written by David DeFeis (pseudonyms: Sal Gibson (songwriter) and "The Lion" (producer)) and Edward Pursino (pseudonym: "Bruizer" Bernette). According to David DeFeis the "band" on this release consisted of Gord Kirchin (vocals), Edward Pursino (guitars), [a=Mike Paccione] (bass guitar; pseudonym: Sal Gibson (bass guitarist)) and [a=Robert Espizito] (drums; pseudonym: "Hammer").

The record company Cobra put out more "bands" and releases this way. Three other projects of that kind were Exorcist and Original Sin, where David DeFeis and Edward Pursino were also involved, as well as Convict, for which Gord Kirchin sang too.
