Polar was a shoegaze / slowcore / dream pop band from Gainesville, FL, United States, that existed intermittently from 1993 to 1999. Founding members were: Kristy Moss (vocals), Ed Ballinger (guitars, keys), Chris Pierce (guitars), Bryan Hoben (Bass), and Chuck Horne (drums). Later incarnations featured a rotating cast of drummers, both human and digital, with George Rebelo of Hot Water Music sitting in for the band's final months. Session players included Kristen King (violin, viola), Frog (brass), Meredith Tousey (piano), and Rob McGregor (harmonica). Releases include: Polar (1994, self released cassette), A Future History of the Frigid Polar Night (1998), and Lies Set by the Polar Mob (1998), both in CD format on the Clairecords label. After this project's dissolution, band members Kristy Moss and Ed Ballinger went on to form Con Dolore, also on the Clairecords roster.
