    American jazz pianist, bandleader and vocalist. Born : January 13, 1902 in Richmond, Virginia. Died : February 15, 1946 in Wall Township, New Jersey. Putney in 1930 the accompanist tap dancer Bill "Bojangles" Robinson later formed his own band which included guitarist Lonnie Johnson, playing in the most important clubs in New York City. Registered with the major jazz artists of the period such as Roy Eldridge, Teddy Wilson, Henry "Red" Allen, Buster Bailey, John Kirby, Chu Berry, Cozy Cole and many others.
