    German filmmaker, actor, playwright, theatre director, composer, cinematographer, editor, and essayist who was born on 1945-05-31 in Bad Wörishofen, Germany, and who died at the age of 37 on 1982-06-10 in Munich, Germany. His career lasted less than two decades, but he was extremely prolific; he completed over 40 feature films, two television series, three short films, four video productions, and 24 plays. He was one of the founders of the Antiteater (1967-1970) and is widely regarded as a prominent figure and catalyst of the Neuer Deutscher Film (New German Cinema) movement.
