Hughes married Kathy Copas in 1956, daughter of Cowboy Copas.
Hughes worked The Grand Ole Opry at the age of 15. Best remembered for managing Patsy Cline.
He died in the 1963 plane crash that also killed country musicians Patsy Cline, Cowboy Copas & Hawkshaw Hawkins.
