American jazz trumpet player,
Born February 22, 1907 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Died September 7, 1967 in Los Angeles, California, USA.
On the recommendation of Louis Armstrong, he briefly joined Fletcher Henderson in 1926, then returned for about five years from 1928 and was with Duke Ellington for around a decade from 1934. Stewart is remembered for his half-valving effects. Toured Europe and Australia, also performed with Jazz At The Philharmonic (1947-1951).
