The American electronic music pioneer Ruth Anderson (Kalispell, Montana,March 21, 1928 – November 29, 2019) was a composer, conductor, and flutist. After studying music at the University of Washington in Seattle, Anderson was the founder and director of Hunter College's Electronic Music Studio from 1968 to 1979. She studied composition with Nadia Boulanger, worked as an orchestrator for NBC and began composing for tape as early as 1958. Ruth Anderson was the partner of Annea Lockwood.
