Sarissa

Greek Heavy Metal band founded in 1985 at Thessaloniki by Jimmy Selalmazidis [the only constant member] he originally played bass, then switched to guitar, and then back to bass.
The name "sarissa" (σάρισα) was a spear used in the ancient Greek and Hellenistic warfare, it was introduced by Philip II of Macedon.
2000 They supported Fates Warning, and in March headlined the Athens Power Metal Festival.
2012 former singer George Hatzisimeonidis returns and the band started a tour which one year later they supported Accept and Warlord in Thessaloniki and headlined "Up The Hammers VIII Festival"
Active years: 1985-1995, 1999-2007, 2012-present.
