Schoolboy Q is an American rapper born Quinton Roger Hanley in Los Angeles, California in 1986. A founding member of the hip-hop collective Black Hippy alongside Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul, and Jay Rock, Schoolboy Q is known for introspective, often dark hip-hop that addresses depression, violence, and spiritual searching with a rawness that has set him apart from many of his contemporaries. Gangsta & Soul (2009) and Setbacks (2011) introduced his style — hard-hitting production and deeply personal lyrics. But That's None of My Business, a breakout feature on Black Hippy's compilation, introduced him to wider audiences. Oxymoron (2014), his major label debut on TDE Records, was a critical and commercial breakthrough, debuting at number two on the Billboard 200 and producing hit singles including Man of the Year and THat Part. Cult Status (2017) continued his commercial success. CrasH Talk (2019) saw him exploring slightly more accessible production while maintaining his commitment to introspective, emotionally raw lyricism.
