Simeon Wood

British musician. Plays Flutes, Pan Pipes and Didgeridoo

Simeon was born in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire and started playing the flute at the age of 8. After 10 years, Trinity College of Music, London, was where his performance and writing skills were honed. Now Simeon enjoys performing all over the world playing on an ever-increasing array of unusual instruments, all with unique sounds. “My work as an itinerant musician has led me to play in extraordinary venues. From caves to castles, palaces to giant redwood forests as well as the more conventional festivals, cruise ships, halls, theatres and art centres”.

When he's not touring Simeon is regularly commissioned to write music for television and theatre productions.
His launch of a newly invented instrument landed him an appearance on the BBC’s One Show
and the Chris Evans Breakfast show. 2016 saw the realease of his 11th solo recording “Wonderful”

Simeon’s first foray in to writing music was to enter a Christmas Carol Competition at Music College. He won. This was perhaps he first glimmer of what was to come. Then in 1986 the film “The Mission” had just come out and a visit to the cinema proved to be an epiphany of sorts. 18th century Spanish Jesuits try to protect a remote South American Indian tribe in danger of falling under the rule of pro-slavery Portugal. The music of Ennio Morricone captivated Simeon and from that day on his goal was to learn how to play the South American instruments featured in the score and learn how to write music for film and TV. In the intervening years those two dreams have come to fruition.

With regular commissions from BBC TV and Radio, ITV, Channel 4 and 5, National Geographic, Sky and the History Channel he has written music for a very wide variety of programmes: Cookery, Current Affairs, Schizophrenia, Pubs, Depression, Slimming products and his favourite… Celebrities and their Dogs!
