About

Formed in 1996 by producer Eric Valentine & Third Eye Blind's Jason Slater, Snake River Conspiracy were a blend of Industrial Metal & Alt. rock from California, US. The duo drafted in vocalist Tobey Torres and were signed by Interscope due to their 2-track demo. Soon after Valentine left the project to focus on his career in producing and the troupe were then bounced from labels Elektra & Reprise, the latter helping them release their debut single 'Vulcan' in October 1999. The single would garner rave reviews, leading to 2 more releases 'Breed' & a cover of The Smiths' 'How Soon Is Now?'. The group's only album 'Sonic Jihad' was released July 2000 and 'How Soon Is Now?' was reissued under Morpheus the following year. In 2006 it was announced that the band had broken up.
In 2016 Torres and former SRC guitarist Mitch Doran formed the band Mojave Phone Booth.
Throughout the years Jason attempted to keep Snake River Conspiracy going with a number of musicians helping him with demos, some of which would surface online. However, in 2020 Slater died of liver failure.
In 2022 an Instagram account for Snake river Conspiracy was made, announcing that new material would premier the following year. However later that same year on the Mojave Phone Booth blog an entry was made titled 'Truth'. In this document it accused Jason Slater of being a plagiarist, stealing many elements from songs already written, as well as songs that had been made for other bands ('Oh Well' and 'Act Your Age' being originally released by the band Running With Scissors ). In each instance the rest of the band members had no idea that the songs were not written by Slater, as he would state he wrote it all. Many more accusations were mentioned, including selling songs to bands that he'd not written as well as his toxic conduct within the local and international music community.
Though Slater's actions are unforgivable, Snake River Conspiracy has had a cult following for over 2 decades, with Tobey still being seen as a poster girl of the early 00's alt. music genre.
