American producer, record label owner, and music executive.
Born 5 July 1938, Dallas, Texas Died 16 December 2015, Tucson, Arizona (77 years of age). He was married to songwriter Yolanda Garrett for more than 30 years.
He was A&R director for Liberty from 1958-1966 and the producer of numerous early 60s hits by white rock-n-roll artists. He was a staff producer at Liberty Records during the 1960s, and was responsible for hiring Phil Spector as a producer for Liberty. Later, he had his own record label, Snuff Garrett Records. He co-founded Viva (3). In 1968, he founded Amigo Studios, setting up J.J. Cale as recording engineer.
He discovered Bobby Vee.
His nickname is a play on Garrett's Snuff, a brand of smokeless tobacco.
