Stakker

About

STAKKER was an audio visual art group comprising the video artists Mark McClean and Colin Scott. The name STAKKER was coined by Mark McClean. Both Mark McClean and Colin Scott attended the Communication Arts BA course at Psalter Lane Sheffield in the mid 80s where they met and formed Stakker Communications Ltd. They were commissioned by John Kilne of MTV to create a 2 part programme called Ultratech. Their meeting with producer Marek Pytel, resulted in a longform retail video for Rhythm King Records (including The Evil Acid Baron Show video and the promo video for the single Humanoid). Stakker's ultimate production was Eurotechno (1989) for Virgin Vision and the Pioneer Video Disc (LaserDisc) system with a remix of Dougan, McClean and Scott's original soundscore, by Scott. By this time Dougans and McClean had left Stakker mid project to work exclusively for Westside records. Pytel & Scott finished the work and supplied the product. Brian Dougans, later of FSOL, wrote and produced the acid house track STAKKER Humanoid with McClean and Scott. STAKKER created the related video. In 1995, Scott and Pytel, working as STAKKER, produced the long form 65min "Stakker Westworld", for Aphex Twin and Warp records. Largely prefiguring the recent work of documentarist Adam Curtis and his use of music from Selected Ambient Works Volume II, It was broadcast as an MTV special and selected for the Viennale Film Festival 1995.
