Swedish soul-pop band, formed in 1965, originally under the name Steampacket and later changed their name to The Longboatmen (in UK) and Steampacket II (in Sweden) One of the first Swedish rock bands to tour England, they learned of the similarly-named Rod Stewart/Brian Auger group on one such trip and changed their name to Steampacket II at home in Sweden, while in England they adopted the name The Longboatmen to avoid confusion. The Longboatmen/Steampacket II split up in 1968. When the band was formed, the members were students at Solbacka läroverk in Stjärnhov. Band members: Rolf Scherrer (vocals, guitar) Mikael Ramel (vocals, guitar) Staffan Winbergh (drums) Stefan Ekeström (bass) replaced in the autumn of 1966 by Per Bruun. Anders Nord (organ) was added somewhat later
