About

Sue first began singing at age 13 and her professional career began at age 18 when the Miss Arkansas Contestant (known then by her maiden name, Chenault) joined a new group known as The Downings. The young soprano quickly made a name for herself.

After 18 months with The Downings, she become a part of the legendary The Speer Family. This was a dream come true for her. She remained there for four-and-a-half years until she met a young youth pastor named Amos Dodge while singing in San Antonio, Texas. Long story short... Amos swept her off her feet and 42 years later they are still very much in love. Their rock- solid marriage is among their most treasured accomplishments and greatest joys.

In 1979, Sue and her husband Amos moved to the Washington, DC area to pioneer a church. This was an opportunity to transition from dream job to a dream come true. A wonderful family and the chance to stand by her husband in pastoral ministry. She embraced these roles with enthusiasm, while still enjoying singing opportunities as her schedule allowed. When the Bill Gaither Homecoming series began in the early 1990’s and the Homecoming concert tours required much of her time, she always made it a priority to serve her church family on Sunday mornings even if it meant she had arrived home in the wee hours of Sunday morning.

Her heart for service, her incredible love for people, and a genuine relationship with her Saviour has carved out Sue’s unique legacy both in the field of gospel music as well as in her ministry at home. Her daughter Tara and her son-in-law Travis Goodman now serve on the staff of their church and will soon become the lead pastors. Sue will quickly tell you that her greatest accomplishments are her Solid marriage to Amos and her daughter. Now she is” Na Na” to three beautiful grandchildren…Sydney, Madeline and Grant Goodman, a role she loves and cherishes.
