Guinea's first orchestra of the independence era was the Orchestre De La Garde Républicaine formed in 1959, who were split into two formations in the early 1960s.
The 1ère formation were nationalised in 1972 and were renamed the Super Boiro Band, led by Niaîssa Mamadou on trumpet. In the post Ahmed Sékou Touré era the group were known as Super Flambeau.
