About

Susan Fuentes (born November 1, 1954 – died September 7, 2013) was a celebrated Filipino singer famously known as the "Queen of Visayan Songs." She rose to prominence for her heartfelt renditions and revival of iconic Visayan classics such as “Matud Nila” (They Say), “Gimingaw Ako” (I Feel Lonesome), “Usahay” (Sometimes), “Rosas Pandan,” and the holiday favorite “Miss Kita Kung Christmas.”

She got her big break and made her recording debut in 1977, quickly gaining acclaim for her distinct vocal style. Fuentes’ sultry and emotional singing was characterized by lusty vocals and passionate delivery, earning her admiration across various regions in the Philippines.

In addition to traditional ballads, she was noted for Latin-infused arrangements of Visayan folk music, which gave a unique flair to her recordings. Her musical reach extended beyond the Visayan-speaking audience, achieving crossover success in Tagalog, Ilocano, Hiligaynon, and other Filipino music markets through beloved collections such as Awitong Bahandi and Mga Awiting Walang Kupas.

Susan Fuentes' rich discography and timeless interpretations have made her an enduring cultural icon in Philippine music history. She passed away on September 7, 2013, at the age of 58, leaving behind a legacy as one of the greatest voices in regional and folk Filipino music.
