Tafo Brothers

The two Tafo Brothers are tabla maestro Altaf Hussain Tafo Khan and his brother Nisar Hussain on the accordion. The name Tafo Brothers, often used interchangeably with Tafo (or spelling variations: Taffoo, Tafoo, Tafu, etc.), may refer to either the tabla maestro himself or, most often, to the 2 brothers or to their band, which at any time may or may not have included other family members, such as Altaf Hussain Tafo Khan's sons Tariq Tafu, Tanveer Tafu or Sajjad Tafu.

In the form of the expanded sextet, commonly known as Tafo or Taffoo to Punjabi and Urdu listeners, they were the first rock group to record their own full album in Lollywood - the nickname for the Pakistani film industry in Lahore. From 1970 onwards the 2 brothers became important in Lahore's vibrant scene by providing incidental music and sonic variations for Pakistani director M.Ashraf with whom they would work for over a decade, all the while using EMI's state of the art recording studios in Lahore.
