About

Finnish heavy metal band formed in 1982 by brothers Marco and Zachary Hietala. The band was originally known as Purgatory (1982–1984). When the band got their record deal, the label wanted the name changed and they became Tarot.

The band's first two studio albums were released in 1986 and 1988, respectively. After that Tarot has been on hiatus many times between the releases, when its members focused on other bands and projects. The most recent studio album was released in 2011, a re-recording of the band's debut album. Original drummer Pecu Kinnari died in 2016 after a long-term illness.

After being on hiatus for 11 years, the band played a comeback show in July 2023 followed by further shows in 2024, featuring Antero Seppänen as a touring drummer.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the band's debut studio album, a special tour will take place in January 2026.
