Consisted of; Leon "Larry" Harrison (lead), Gregory (John Wayne) Carroll (1st tenor), Vernon "Bert" Palmer (baritone), William "Tommy" Carter (bass), Alvin Bowen (arranger, guitar) Savoy Records had few vocal groups until the Robins in 1949 and the 4 Buddies in 1950, with the 4 Buddies achieving a Top 10 R&B hit in 1951 with "I Will Wait." In 1955, members of the 4 Buddies reformed as the Buddies, recording for the Glory label.
