The Muggers

The Muggers were a fun time side project featuring ''Fast'' Eddie Clarke and Phil ''Philty Animal'' Taylor from Motörhead, along side Billy Wrath (bass) from The Heartbreakers and John ''Speedy'' Keen (guitar and vocals). In 1978, after brief rehearsals at The Rainbow Theatre in London, the band played a few dates with top blues rock guitarist Wilko Johnson (of Dr. Feelgood fame). They then accepted an invitation to play at posh party in the Oxfordshire countryside. Confident of their quality and readiness, the band took a mobile studio to the party (held by Lady Alexandria Reading) and recorded their set. The result is ''The Muggers Tapes'', a combination of covers such as Neil Young's ''Cinnamon Girl'' and Eddie Cochran's ''Summertime Blues'' and originals. (Malcolm Dome, from Motorhead's ''All The Aces'' liner notes).
