The Odds were a high-energy punk-influenced rock band formed in 1978 by Bill McKeown (bass) and Sam Leyland (vocals), soon joined by Colin Brockwell (drums) and Stuart Matthewman (saxophone). Keiran Moses joined as guitarist after the recording of Saturday Night but before the photograph was taken for the front cover which is why he's on the photo but not the credits. Over the band’s lifespan they went through several line-up changes before settling with Keiran Moses (vocals/guitar) and Jonathan “Twig” Leafe (guitar). They built a strong following on the UK grassroots circuit, gigging at venues including The Marquee Club, Hull City Hall, Dudley JB’s and university dates, and shared bills with The Damned, The Skids, The Selector and others. Their sound blended punk energy with pop hooks and 60s influences. The band disbanded in autumn 1981, but their legacy was later celebrated with the 2023 vinyl + digital release Foolish Men, compiling singles, B-sides, demos and live tracks.
