About

The Shoes were as highly successful beat band from Zoeterwoude (NL) that emerged in the second half of the sixties. Their combination of the soulful vocals of Theo van Es with accessible, yet uncommon songwriting went very well with Dutch audiences. Between 1966 and 1970 they had 14 hit singles in the Dutch chart, three of them reaching the top ten. When Theo left the band in 1971, the band soldiered on as ''[a=Double You (5)]'', but left almost no trace in musical history. After Double You, band members Henk en Jan Versteegen started the Stay Brothers and later on TheStaybrothers Band. After Theo returned to the band in 1974, they started recording and touring under the Shoes moniker once again, resulting in two more Dutch hit singles. Soon afterward the band disbanded, although in 1980 another reunion took place for a Dutch festival.

On the 12th and 13th of March 2011 'The Shoes' celebrated their 50th anniversary with a double concert in their hometown Zoeterwoude.
