The Van Pelt were an emo/indie rock band from New York, NY (USA) originally existing from 1993 to 1997 (performing numerous reunion shows since then) known for their blend of abstract lyrics with music that had more in common with art rock than the hardcore bands that the members had previously played in.
The band disbanded in 1997, with Chris and Toko forming a new band called The Lapse that year, and Brian later joining the band Jets To Brazil in 1998.
In April 2014, they issued a record of previous unreleased material recorded around 1996 and 1997, Imaginary Third.
A fourth studio album, Artisans + Merchants Artisans & Merchants, was released in March 2023.
