The Vast

A crazy band with great sounding original music in the early to mid 90's. Their album, "Ingrid's Sandbox" is still kicking around out there. "The Vast" was the "Made in Rochester" Runner-up in 1992 and the Champion in 1993. They were a young band with a ton of energy, known for their crazy antics. One night they'd be dressed like Madonna, other nights they were Catholic priests, super heroes or donning tuxedos and prom dresses. They played at just about every bar and college in the state and could often be seen trying to foster the original music scene along with Hard Rain, Officer Friendly, Nerve Circus, Exploding Boy, and other popular local bands. The Vast had a unique sound that found a loyal following. They opened for a wide variety of other acts, ranging from avant-garde band King Missle to guitar virtuoso Yngwie Malmsteen, and even Irish rock band, The Cranberries. When they were half way through their follow-up album "Halamalawala", the band parted ways. Not much is known about the vocalist, guitarist or drummer, but their bassist, Jim Hanson went on to play with "The Lovematics" and "The Movies" and then moved to Nashville where he is currently the bassist for "The Creeping Cruds".
