US female vocal group from Jackson, TN formed on 18 July 1955 by four students from the Medina High School (just north of Jackson). Formelly known as "The Medinettes".
Members: Peggy Laster (lead tenor), Kay Ross (high tenor harmonies), Alice Fly (alto) and Julia Graves (low alto).
When Julia and Kay got married in 1957 they left the group for contractual reasons (with Meteor Records. The two remaining members recruited Marcia Watt, continued for a while as The Velvatones but eventually changed their name to The Charmettes in order to avoid name clash with The Vel Tones.
By the summer of 1959 all of the girls were married and their singing career together was over.
