Chapel Hill, NC indie rock band, The White Octave, was formed in January 1999 by Stephen Pedersen (ex-Cursive) after he moved from Omaha to Chapel Hill that fall to attend Duke University School of Law. Pedersen met bassist Linc Hancock and drummer Robert Biggers through mutual friends and they band began recording demos of songs that would be released on their first 7" (A Split with Sorry About Dresden) and their first album (Style No. 6312). The band recruited second guitarist Finn Cohen (ex-Fura) and released a second album (Menergy) on Jun 29, 2001 and toured in support of that album. They played their last show on Nov 3, 2001 at the Cat's Cradle in Carrboro, NC. This show was released as the "Live Menergy" cd. After moving back to Omaha following his graduation from Duke, Pedersen started his next project, Criteria. The White Octave has played only two reunion shows since their original break-up, once at the Hopscotch Music Fest in September 2014, and again at the 50th Anniversary Celebration for the Cat's Cradle in January 2020.
