Thom Kunz & Whitney Pearsall

Thom Kunz & Whitney Pearsall are a duo from Wilmington, NC. Last fall Kunz released a concept album that featured a handful of singers. The result, “Paper Brain,” was an emotionally resonant album that offered up different genres and themes.

Whitney Pearsall was one of the singers (she sang “Far Away”) and the collaboration led to something larger - "Stars in the Black and Blue".

"Paper Brain" saw a successful self-release on vinyl, cd, and digital.

"Stars in the Black and Blue" was recorded and mixed in a rented historic home (The Redding House, c.1850), a Greek revival style house built for Susan Williams Redding (1819-1902), a local Wilmington seamstress and dressmaker.

Thereafter, the recordings were mastered by Tom Scheponik at the SoundLAB.

Stars in the Black and Blue” blends folk, rock and country with an undercurrent of synth ambience.

It’s a concept album, two halves working in conjunction. One side’s songs focuses on relationships — family and friends and the good and the bad therein, and Side B is a narrative called “The Black & Blue Suite", which explores the emotional inner space colliding with the unexplained outer space, sort of romantic love beyond the world we know, or think we know – two hearts in limbo, searching for a way back.
