Tihuana

Tihuana is a Brazilian rock band formed in 1999 in São Paulo, blending punk, nu metal, hardcore, rap rock, reggae rock, and Latin rhythms into a distinctive, high-energy sound. Their debut album Ilegal (Virgin, 2000), produced by Rick Bonadio and Rodrigo Castanho, sold 150,000 copies (gold certification), featuring massive hits like "Tropa de Elite" (later featured in the film soundtrack), "Pula!", "Praia Nudista," and "Eu Vi Gnomos."

The band quickly rose to prominence, touring extensively, performing at Rock in Rio, and playing in Japan. Follow-ups A Vida Nos Ensina (EMI, 2002) incorporated Andean instruments and Latin vibes, while Aqui ou em Qualquer Lugar (Sony, 2003) and self-titled Tihuana (EMI, 2004) amplified guitar-driven rock with provocative tracks like "Renata" (addressing child prostitution) and "Mulheres São de Vênus Homens São de Marte."

Later releases include Um Dia de Cada Vez (Universal, 2006), live album Tropa de Elite - Ao Vivo (2008), and independent Agora É Pra Valer! (Building Records, 2013). Known as "the best live band in Brazil," Tihuana influenced the early 2000s rock scene alongside Raimundos and CPM 22, earning acclaim for visceral performances and genre fusion.
