Moved to San Francisco at age five, and was playing in small groups around Palo Alto when 13. Toured with Stan Kenton in 1969 and with Woody Herman 1970-1971, then joined Horace Silver in 1973 and moved to New York. Later worked with Cecil Payne, Lee Konitz, Phil Woods and others.
